Play As Therapy Motion Tracking
Project Description
Starlight has been working tirelessly to realign its services to best support the shifting needs of children and their support network as they journey through hospital and treatment. A core part of this mission is the use of play to provide distraction and bring joy to the everyday.
Our collaboration with Starlight Charity focused on creating an immersive play experience for Leeds Children’s Hospital, where we used motion tracking to create a safe, no-touch play area that will hopefully improve the hospital experience for all children.
Our Role
- Fleshing out initial ideas and working viability of many aspects of the project at storyboard level
- Writing much of the core code driving the experience in C#
- Creating and coding the entire river-run game, an interesting challenge as it combined a 3D river and spline created in 3DsMax with 2D elements of jungle foliage and various characters populated in code along its length
- Programming the gameplay mechanics for the bubble pop game
- Main UI Design and Implementation, including all UI animations
- Integrating Google Analytics to track and analyse user interactions and game performance
- Creating a video for floor projection using Unity, incorporating assets from the Asset Store and utilising Unity’s native timeline editor
- Working closely with our manager and the hospital staff to install the equipment and ensure its proper functioning. This included remotely accessing the machines running the games
